Introduction

Hey everyone! I’m back from our family vacation to Hawaii! It was a much needed break from all the stress of moving the past few months. We all had a great time sight seeing and enjoying lots of fun activities. Now I’m home and it’s December already! I’ve got to get the Christmas stuff in order asap, especially shopping and shipping gifts (see below shipping deadlines). And then there’s the holiday decorations, the food planning and shopping, and the fun activities like visiting Santa in the city and baking cookies. I have my lists and my calendar and it’s all going to get done.

Oh, and yes, there are still a few boxes around the house. We are a little bit stuck for the moment until we get some shelves. My biggest focus right now is just to put stuff away!! This is the single biggest thing that makes a house look and feel cluttered. I’m still trying to figure out where “away” is for some things, but those that have a home, just need to be PUT AWAY! It’s not a difficult concept, but my kids definitely struggle with it. And yes, I get lazy and don’t put stuff away either, but gosh darn it, let’s just do it! That’s my soap box for today… let’s put our stuff away. Grab things as you walk buy and put them away.

Important Holiday Shipping Dates for 2015

I have several packages to wrap up, box up and ship off very soon, as all of my family live out of state. That’s why I always try to get an early start, to make sure my packages arrive on time, as well as avoid the mass of people at the post office!

Here is this year’s important shipping information from the United States Postal Service. (If you live outside of the U.S., you can ignore this. However, I’m sure your country has some deadlines as well.)

According to the USPS, this year, they expect to deliver 10.5% more packages than last year, with a total of approximately 600 million packages. That’s a LOT of packages!

Here are some important dates to keep in mind:

Monday December 14th - Busiest day for mailing and shipping packages, letters and cards. (So avoid the post office on that day if you can!)

If you want your packages to arrive by December 25th, these are some of the shipping deadlines:

  • Dec. 8 – Priority Mail Express International
  • Dec. 15 – Standard Post
  • Dec. 19 – First Class Mail
  • Dec. 19 – Global Express Guaranteed
  • Dec. 21 – Priority Mail
  • Dec. 23 – Priority Mail Express

For additional dates and details (international and military), go to USPS Holiday 2015.

Sunday delivery will happen again this year in large cities for the four Sundays before Christmas.

You may also want to sign up for the post office’s new myusps.com to stay in touch with the post office for any packages you’re expecting or shipping.

So get your shopping done and wrapped up asap if you plan to ship it somewhere! I’m off to get my packages ready to ship.

Until next time, happy organizing!
