News

A lot of people plan to get organized with the start of the new year. And there are no lack of articles and suggestions to get people motivated. It’s no wonder then that January is National Get Organized Month (GO Month), as supported by the National Association of Professional Organizers.

I wanted to share a couple short articles with you that might be helpful to you. One, to get you inspired and give you some ideas, and two, to remind you that it doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task if you tackle it with the right mindset.

“Clever, inexpensive ways to get organized” – A nice article with advice from a variety of people who specialize in organizing. Each gives a great tip for one area of your home.

“Get Organized in 2009” – A short article jumpstart you with some basics.

Getting Organized Together in 2009

Welcome to a brand new year… a great time to make a fresh start. Don’t worry, I’m not going to make you write down your resolutions. I don’t believe they work anyway. But we can think about the things we’d like to achieve in 2009.

Even though I consider myself organized, it’s an ongoing process. Things often need to be revisited and reorganized as time goes by and life changes.

I thought we could work together to get better organized in 2009. I’m going to send out a reminder in the monthly newsletter to check the goals for the month. I will try to keep them simple, yet have them make a difference. And of course, you can always look around the website for alternative things to organize if the month’s tasks don’t fit for you at the time.

Here are some basic ground rules before we get started:

Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. It’s easy to look at that room, pile of laundry, garage, whatever and just want to shut the door on it and walk away. Give yourself permission to work on it 10-15 minutes at a time and be done ‘til next time. If you do that, you will eventually reach your goal. A little bit at a time is better than not at all.

Don’t worry about getting behind. Do what you can. Don’t give up because you think you’re falling behind what everyone else is doing. You only have yourself to compete with. Any progress is good progress.

Just do it! I have people say to me “that won’t work for me”, but they didn’t even try. Before you can judge if something is going to work, you must give it a fair try. Then, you can judge and make adjustments or find something that does work for you. So give organizing a fair try before you make judgment.

I think that’s enough to get us started. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions as we venture through this together. You can contact me via my Contact Me page on my website.

Until next time, happy organizing!
