Introduction

Welcome to May and hopefully the weather is cooperating with most of us so we can get outside and get some outdoor organizing and cleaning done.

I know I mentioned last month about not wanting to wash my windows. However, I bought one of those Windex Outdoor all-in-one kits (for three dollars instead of the $12.99 list price) and washed my windows in less than an hour! That’s 15 windows, and they looked pretty darned clean! It was definitely worth it. Now, to get all the face and finger prints off the inside of the windows!

I’ve also worked on reorganizing our shed (pictures to come) and moving around some gardening supplies in the garage.

What sort of outdoor projects do you have on your list?

Did you know…

The Monthly Mission – The Garage

The nice weather is here and it’s time to start tidying up our garages (or basements). Open it up and sweep it out!

Give Everything a Home - Part 1

I have found that one of the main reasons things don’t get put away when they’re done being used is because they don’t have a home, a specific place to be put when they’re not in use.

I have small children and here is what they say when I ask them to put things away…. “I don’t know where it goes.” But I have to say, this isn’t just a problem that children encounter, it’s a problem we all face. I myself leave certain things around because I need to find them a home. If I only knew where they went, I’d gladly put them away so they would no longer be sitting out here and there calling to me every time I pass by them, “Put me away! You’ve only looked at me 500 times wondering what to do with me!”

You know what they say, “a place for everything and everything in its place” and I think it’s a major factor to keeping a home organized.

Let’s think about giving lost items a place to live. And, if we don’t have enough space to give them a home, then maybe they don’t belong in our house. Or, maybe something else needs to be tossed or given away to make room for the items we really wish to keep. We only have so much space, so we need to make decisions on what to let go and what to keep and where to put it.

Pick a small area (room, corner, desk) and find a home for all the items sitting out looking lost. Perhaps they already have a home but they just need to be put away. Or, perhaps you need to figure out a home. Or maybe even, it’s something you don’t really need and you can get rid of it, clearing space that way.

If you have children, try to help them find space to put their things, and help them to determine what items go where. Give everything a place to be put away and hopefully you won’t have to hear the excuse “but I don’t know where it goes.”

Next month I will write more about giving items a home that makes logical sense.

Until next time, happy organizing!

Sincerely,

Tracy Greene
